Events and Workshops
Advocacy Days was initiated in 2012 in order to: (1) build relationships between provincial and municipal elected officials, (2) look at how the Province and municipalities can work together to better serve the interests of all Nova Scotians, and (3) minimize the collective tax burden.
Municipal politicians from across the province come to Halifax when the Provincial Legislature is in session. The purpose is to meet with as many MLA's as possible from all political parties over a two day period to discuss important municipal issues. This event will occur annually.
The CEO-CAO Forum brings together Mayors and Wardens and Chief Administrative Officers from municipalities across the province to discuss a variety of issues. This is a 1.5 day session held annually.
Council Orientation is a partnership between Service Nova Scotia and Municipal Relations, the UNSM and the AMA. It offers a two and a half day training session every four years to newly elected municipal officials. The next Council Orientation will take place in Truro from November 15-17, 2012.
Fall Conference and Spring Workshop
The UNSM hosts two annual events for the membership−a Fall Conference and Spring Workshop−both of which offer presentations covering a variety of municipal issues. The Fall Conference gives members the opportunity to present issues of concern through resolutions. The Spring Workshop provides additional training opportunities for our members. Both events are excellent ways for municipal elected officials to network through sharing information and ideas.
