By the end of this session, participants will know:
1.    The structure and components of the AMA Records Management Manual
2.    How to implement the manual, including:

  • What is/is not an official record
  • How to use the manual to classify official records
  • File structures- classifying vs filing and file naming
  • How to apply the retention schedules and dispositions in the manual to active and semi-active records
  • Storing semi-active records
  • Steps and things to look for when preparing inactive records for disposition

3.    Approval of the Manual
4.    When and how to implement records management software

Financial Management II

Financial Management  for Managers: Policies, Processes and Control Systems

This workshop will be held from Thursday January 28th to Friday January 29, 2015 at The Prince George Hotel in Halifax. We are delighted to have facilitators  Mike Dolter, MBA, BCom, CPA, CMA, Chief Administrative Officer, Town of Truro and Cathie Osborne, BComm, CPA, CGA, Chief Administrative Officer, Municipality of the District of West Hants.   

The workshop is intended to build awareness and an understanding of internal control systems, administrative procedures, materials necessary to  support decision-making, contract negotiation and the tax sale process.

Who should attend: This workshop is designed for the finance practitioner who is responsible for the internal controls and the accounts payable function/process, as well as Finance Managers and any Department Directors or managers who have budget authority for local government spending.  Those dealing with tax sales, as well as, anyone responsible for negotiating procurement or other contracts.

Each two day workshop will have a maximum of 25 participants  and will be in an interactive classroom environment. We believe that participants learn from each other so this workshop has been developed to be interactive using real life case studies and engaging group discussions.

Cost

The price of each two day workshop is $585 + HST per AMANS or UNSM member and $750 + HST per non-member. All attendees will receive lunch and refreshments at the workshop, as well as a participant’s workbook. Participants who complete the program will also receive a certificate of completion.

Financial Management  for Managers: Policies, Processes and Control Systems
