IPAC AGM

Location:
World Trade and Convention Centre, 2nd Floor, Halifax, NS

The Nova Scotia Regional Group of IPAC is pleased to announce its 2013-14 Annual General Meeting on Friday, June 20, 2014, at the World Trade and Convention Centre on the 2nd Floor. The AGM will be followed by a presentation and panel discussion on the role of municipalities in changing the future of Nova Scotia.

The One Nova Scotia Commission led by Ray Ivany issued an urgent call to action to all Nova Scotians on how to shape our economic future. Economic growth, depopulation and the urban-rural divide are all major issues raised in the Commission’s report. These are issues municipalities have been dealing with on the ground for several years. Now, with the heightened awareness and momentum from the Ivany report, municipalities are taking a proactive approach to economic and governance issues facing Nova Scotia and focusing on how they can become leaders and catalysts for change.

Our panel presentation will consider what municipalities can do, and are doing, to encourage business growth and attract people, and the sustainability of the current municipal governance model in Nova Scotia. Panel members are:

•    David Corkum, Mayor of Kentville and President of the Union of Nova Scotia Municipalities
•    Mike Savage, Mayor of Halifax Regional Municipality
•    Lisa MacDonald, Chief Administrative Officer of New Glasgow

We look forward to seeing you on June 20 for this timely discussion, and hope you can join us afterwards for a reception.

Pep Rally--Winter Canada Games

Mark your calendars! On behalf of Team NS, I would like to invite you to a Pep Rally on Jan. 24 for the Team NS contigent that will represent the province at the 2015 Canada Winter Games.   The Pep Rally will be held at the Emera Oval from  2 p.m. – 3  p.m.    We are hoping you can join us at this official send-off for the athletes who will represent NS.  There will be an opportunity to meet the athletes, skate with the athletes and their families, etc. – should be lots of great photo opps and a great day to celebrate Nova Scotia.    All of the team rosters - with information on each athlete's home town - will be posted on the Team NS website (www.teamnovascotia.ca) as they are finalized; this will provide you with information about where each athlete lives.

Also, if you are not aware, Team NS’ Twitter handle is @teamnovascotia.   Again, we would love and appreciate if all Nova Scotia Mayors could follow TeamNS and help us build excitement and support for our young athletes.  Our social media is just slowing starting back up for the 2015 Games…it will keep growing and we need as many Nova Scotians as possible to join in building the excitement and supporting the athletes.
